Solar Thermal

Solar thermal panels provide a renewable water heating system that uses the energy
from the sun to produce most of the hot water requirements for your home or place of work.

Solar Thermal Panels

GES Mechanical is based in Doncaster and specialise in solar panels and solar power systems for all domestic and commercial sectors. Solar is a completely renewable resource and is a constant and consistent source of energy which will never run out.

The panels can be installed on or within a sloping roof, on flat roofs, or even on a wall or a floor which will provide you hot water from a clean and renewable source of energy.

Once the panels are installed, there is little or no maintenance requirements although we would recommend a service every 5 to 10 years to replace the glycol (solar fluid) to ensure the system works to the best of its ability.

Solar Thermal Panels

How does solar thermal work?

1. The panels/tubes on your roof absorb the sun’s energy – they are known as the collector.

2. The water in the panels/tubes will then heat up.

3. The hot water is then pumped through a coil in your hot water cylinder.

4. Which finally transfers the heat to the water in the cylinder ready for you to use at your will.

Types of Solar Thermal Panels

There are two types of solar thermal panel which
are flat plate panels and evacuated tubes.

Flat plate panels consist of an absorber plate in an insulated metal box. The top of the box is glass or plastic which lets the energy of the sun through, while the insulation keeps heat loss to a minimum. Lots of thin tubes carry water through the absorber plate heating it up as it passes through.

Instead of a plate, evacuated tube collectors have glass tubes containing metal absorber tubes, through which water is pumped. Each tube is a vacuum (the air is ‘evacuated’ hence the name), which minimises heat loss. The Energy Saving Trust field trial found little difference in performance between the two. For many people the decision is a matter of their physical appearance.

Why Us

We are a Micro Generation Scheme (MCS) registered and approved installer and we will provide you with everything you need to know regarding the domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme which was introduced in April 2014. This scheme is designed to give you a healthy payback on the heat that you will generate. Call GES Mechanical on 01302 966169 for a free, no obligation site survey and quote.
