Solar Power in Grimsby – Shoreline Housing Partnership

Freshney Green in Grimsby, the multi-million pound redevelopment by Shoreline Housing Partnership and Stamford Homes on the site of the former Yarborough Estate, is literally transforming the neighbourhood.

The eight year scheme will change the original 296 home estate into a high quality sustainable urban environment which will provide 440 modern new properties for the next generation of residents.

As well as new homes the housing showpiece will include open spaces, a health centre, play area and traffic calming measures. All homes on the new development will be built to Code Level 3 Standard for Sustainable Homes, which means they are around 25% more energy efficient than homes built to current building regulations.

To meet these stringent environmental standards Grant Solar PV (Photovoltaic) In-roof Systems a form of solar power have been installed by MCS approved GES Mechanical UK Ltd of Doncaster, on properties to supplement the cost of electricity required for heating and hot water.

The four GPV 180 module system and Mastervolt Soladin 600 inverters will generate electrical power by converting solar radiation into direct current electricity. This will provide approximately 545 kWh of energy per annum which will not only reduce energy bills for tenants, but also generate revenue for Shoreline Housing Partnership through the Governments’ ‘Feed-in Tariff’ (FIT) scheme.

Through the Feed-in-tariff scheme a payment of 36.1p per kWh (new-build tariff) for all electricity generated is guaranteed for 25 years as well as a separate payment for the electricity exported to the national grid. The Grant Solar PV in-roof system has many unique features which include the flexibility to install the solar modules in a portrait or landscape arrangement.

Marcus Payne, managing director of GES Mechanical said: “We used Grant Solar PV Systems on this project because of the availability of the inverters and parts, which are essential when tight deadlines have to be met.

“The product quality is excellent, as is their technical and customer support.”
